Last Friday I had the pleasure of photographing punk rock band Sum 41 at the O2 Institute in Birmingham on the 2016 Kerrang Tour. I’ve always been a fan of Sum 41 and have seen them a few times before, however never photographed them, due to their frontman, Deryck Whibley falling ill just before I started music photography. This meant they were unable to tour for a few years and so I was happy to finally get to photograph these guys. I had great fun shooting their show, although there was a lot of red light which took it’s toll in the post production process. I bumped into the band’s tour photographer who gave me a few tips (thanks Ian!) and I was allowed to grab a few shots from the balcony before putting my camera away to enjoy a gig, something which I rarely get to do.
